EPOCH Premieres at Ithaca Fringe Festival

On April 14th-17th the Ithaca Fringe Festival will showcase the innovative work of writer, director and filmmaker James Comfort.

Comfort’s show, Epoch, will premiere at the Fringe and promises to treat audience members to a night of exciting, cutting edge, and heart rending theatre.

Until recently, Comfort had focused his writing and directing talents primarily on film. Fans of his work are quite familiar with his groundbreaking web series “Avenue Avery,”  which he single handedly wrote, directed and produced. However, in the last few years Comfort’s love of the theater was fostered through Ithaca’s own Actor’s Workshop of Ithaca Theater Training Studio (AWI), where he began as a student and is now part of the teaching staff. Since joining AWI’s staff, Comfort has branched out, writing show stopping one act plays for the Workshop. His funny yet poignant pieces are known for their appeal not just to regular theater goers, but to people who have little to no prior exposure to the theater. Says Comfort, “As a self taught filmmaker, I’m committed to bringing quality performance art to people of all walks of life, regardless of whether it’s in the form of film or theater. The arts can be transformative and shouldn’t be the purview of any particular demographic. Art should inspire and engage all of us. I strive to write work that is engaging and accessible to everyone, work that turns all different kinds of people onto the arts.”

Comfort’s “Epoch”  is a series of four thematically connected one-acts which explore life, love, and the human desire to be more. The plays explore a young woman’s transformative trip home, a French vacation which indelibly changes the course of a young couple’s life, an ordinary girl fighting a heartbreaking battle with her inner demons, and two quirky, adventurous souls pondering the nature of what it means to love deeply in 21st century.
